Happy Valentine’s Day from Sweet Jubilee
Sweet Jubilee sends their love! Sweet Jubilee is a group in Albuquerque, New Mexico specializing in 1920s-1940s jazz dance.
Sweet Jubilee also sends their love to the creators of this special dance: Jojo Jackson and Giselle Anguizola. "Hot Pockets" and "Honey Pot" are two routines combined into one. Each routine focuses on fast and intricate steps that perfectly match the spry and quick beat of the song "Happy Feet" as performed by Fletcher Henderson and his Orchestra (1933).
Thoughts and Ideas
What if? Have you ever watched a tv show where the audio and action were out of sync? Have you felt aggravation with the lag between your audio and your collaborators audio or between movement and the music in virtual space or suffered those frozen frames but the voice keeps going? What if you used these observances as a generator of ideas to explore abstract ideas of time, timing, synchronicity, expectations, predictions in thought and with movement? What if the abstract ideas became less abstract and shed light on current events or a story of interest?

Thoughts and Ideas
Applying lessons from another art form to your art form - In dance performance it is natural for many art forms to come together, most notably dance, music, visual art, lighting, and costuming, but how often have you thought of overlap in theory? While we are not meeting on stage, take the time to meet through conversation. Talk to another artist you may know about an element of their art form such as improvisation, composition, pattern, technique, dynamics. Who knows what may come up and grab your attention to make you look at your creative process from a new light. Connect with another artist.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
We are grateful for this beautiful community, and we love you all so much! We hope your day is filled with love and joy.
Happy Lunar New Year 2021!
2021 is the year of the Metal Ox. "The ox, in Chinese culture, is a hardworking zodiac sign. It usually signifies movements so, hopefully, the world will be less static than last year and get moving again in the second half of the year." - Thierry Chow, a Hong Kong-based feng shui master (CNN Travel)
Thoughts and Ideas
Have you heard the term "Imposter Syndrome"? Does it resonate? How do you conquer those moments when you doubt yourself, when you have started a new project and have that moment of panic, "who do I think I am", "what have I started! I can't..." and begin to lose faith in yourself?
Discussing Disability in Dance Book Project
One in four people in the US have a disability that impacts a major part of their life according to a 2018 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. What if the dance world reflected that statistic? The Discussing Disability in Dance Book Project seeks to investigate and dismantle the language and stereotypes often used to describe professional dancers with disabilities.

Thoughts and Ideas
The nature of memory and storytelling. Imagine the brain as a video projector and your experiences, the movie. This is the myth many believe is memory. After reading an article on memory it appears memory is more akin to making art, we construct memory out of a collection of bits, clues, and associations not necessarily connected to the original experience, then the editor or artist in us tells us what it thinks we need to know, or express. It seeks to clarify. How does the brain decide what it "thinks" we need to know? Could habitual thought patterns play a part like habitual movement patterns, not only aiding us but confining us?
