If you are interested in participating or listening to UNM Dance Program's first action toward looking at and dismantling white supremacy in the program, Dr. Nicole L. Martin will facilitate a Truth Commission for Black and Indigenous students, alumni, and dance artists in the Albuquerque and New Mexico community to speak. You may submit testimony and questions through an anonymous form, which will remain open until 5pm on Thursday, August 6. Space will be held as pre-submitted remarks are read by Dr. Martin during the session.

All are welcome. Folks who are not Black or Indigenous, please come to listen and learn with us. Registration is required for the Zoom session. Please register here: https://unm.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJIrdemtrz0oH91Jf7KpqZ3rJnnGVZZ_MX1s. You will receive a confirmation and password via email.

Creative Musings

1. Serious: Think about avoidance. Think about minimization. Think about the smallest things you appreciate today. Take these thoughts as a creative prompt exploring all three concepts in a personal way in a movement sequence. Can you maximize the smallest things that now stand out as important? Can you feel where they originate in your body?

2. Light: Find a concrete surface to move across outdoors. Bring at least 2 liters of water, a basin to pour it in, thick water absorbent socks, (or get wet head to toe) music and joy. Start by standing in the basin of water. Then dance across the pavement and see what patterns your feet can create on the pavement. Expand on the idea to involve other body parts on ground or other surfaces; concrete walls with wet gloves. In a studio space tape down heavy butcher paper and make water patterns on paper. Experiment explore!

Inspiration and Escape

Take a drive on the musical highway. There is a musical stretch on Route 66 that where the road plays America the Beautiful at 45mph. It really works, I tried it! https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/musical-highway

And while you are out that way, head for one of the hiking trails in the Sandias. South Crest Trail to Travertine Falls, a short easy .5 mile hike, which begins not far from Canyon Estates. This section of the trail is safe for children, but I do read there is a Poison Ivy hazard. Check it out and other trails here. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-mexico/travertine-falls

Remember, ADC exists for you.
