Increase your emotion vocabulary

Increase your ability to communicate through your dance - many of us, label our moods too quickly. See if you can come up with 50 positive emotion words to label a pleasant Affect with high or low energy and 50 negative emotion words for an unpleasant Affect with high or low energy. Monitor how you apply your expanded vocabulary to your changing moods as the list increases.

1. Serious: Take four exercises or movement phrases, or action verbs and apply emotion words, positive/negative/positive/negative alternating between the four phrases to represent the constantly fluctuating emotions of the day.

 2. Light: take four action words that make you smile i.e. squish, wiggle, milk, meander - and make a silly, super short, dance, poem, song-break to pop out with anytime you need to lighten your day or someone else's. What if you did it under the sprinkler in the park! (and yes milk is a verb).

Inspiration and Escape

Inspired to choreograph a political statement?

Here is little inspiration: Bad Romance - Women's Suffrage (behind the scenes). Among other things, the fabric masks over the dancers eyes in part of this video reminded me our Covid masks can be used for more statement than community health.

Or maybe you need a pure escape:

Comfort food, a ridiculous recipe - "Quick Cheeseburger Pie!" Usually those two words don't go together, cheeseburger + pie, but in this case just go with it. (Sounds like a great title for a dance) Mix a pie crust: 1 1/3c flour, 1/2tsp salt, 1/2 c shortening cut in until it looks like peas, 4-5tbsp cold water drizzled in and tossed around with a fork. Mix it until it looks like you failed, i.e. it doesn't make a ball. Dump it in your pie dish and mash it up the sides and across the bottom. Voila a messy pie crust. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes. In the meantime brown up 3/4 onion, 1 lb hamburger, mix. (Burner still on), sprinkle in 1/4 c flour. Stir in 1/3 c pickle juice, 1/3 c milk, 1/2 c chopped pickles and 1 c shredded cheese, (Cheddar, Swiss, American, your choice). Burner off. Dump into pie crust, spread it evenly and pop it back in the 425 oven for 15 more minutes. Sprinkle another cup of cheese over the top, put it back in the oven for 5 minutes to melt and brown. Remove. wait until it settles. Slice, eat, and be amazed!
