Third Week of May Thoughts
Thoughts to Ponder
On the topic of re-opening studios there is little guidance coming from on high. We have come across three articles however, that have relevant comments that relate to the dance environment. They are listed below. The first article talks about the air we breath, considering exposure to virus particles related to the length of time we breath it.
The second article is about mask wearing and physical exertion. At this time it is not recommended to wear a mask while exercising.
The third article is related to coronavirus exposure and dance classes; it suggests that fitness classes have a higher infection rate than yoga/Pilates.
Only the third article specifically discusses dance, but they all address topics relative to a dance environment that might allow you to analyze reopening problems worth considering.
Creative "Focus" - Work with your visual focus as well as the space between you and the object of your focus. Using one piece of short choreography; Focus internally, see nothing outside of yourself through out. Take your focus external; focus on someone, something, near and far, a specific, give your gaze varied meaning. Say something with your gaze. Focus in different directions. Mix a variety of focus techniques within your choreography for impact. Record and work with the camera, close the distance. See how the focus works near and far. Experiment explore.
Call to Action - Artists are stepping up to the plate in new and creative ways. Collaborate, brainstorm, share skills, share knowledge. Look for resources and share. (Send discoveries for us to post.) Look for a new way of delivering classes, a new way of reaching an audience. Wait and see is no longer viable. Make the new way. A question - are there portable floors and stages to conduct a socially distanced class outdoors?
