Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In his “Loving Your Enemies" sermon, he acknowledges how difficult this idea is. He discusses how and why we should pursue something so counterintuitive and why it is a worthwhile endeavor.

Forgiveness does not mean ignoring what has been done or putting a false label on an evil act. It means, rather, that the evil act no longer remains as a barrier to the relationship.”

"Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

Take some time to reflect on these and other ideas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. elucidated to us. Think about what forgiveness looks like, what love looks like. What do these things feel like? How can we apply them in our lives and in today’s world? What would the world be like if Martin Luther King Jr.’s ideas were put into practice by more people?

Sending the Albuquerque dance community love and support always, and especially today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. and all that he stands for.
