Weekly Update and Thoughts
Virtual Artist Mixer
Last Friday night's Artist Mixer was a breath of fresh air in a year of challenge. Artists of varied backgrounds and talents got to know both new and resident artists in the Albuquerque area and beyond through several random small group breakout sessions where thoughts and projects were explored, and connections made. We thank everyone who came for their positive energy and willingness to participate and promise those of you who missed out that we will continue to provide similar events in the future.
Remember, if you are seeking collaboration or desire to participate in a project, one of the benefits to being an ADC member is your ability to send out an email to the list-serv google group. Refer to the Contact Page on our website for guidelines in the use of our list-serv group.abqdanceconnect@googlegroups.com

Thoughts and Ideas
Musings
Communication through gesture and eyes. Have you noticed yourself using these means to communicate in your daily life lately due to mask wearing? Try wearing a mask while dancing and see how this generates new use of these tools in your work. Extending from this thought, can a smile or act of kindness be more contagious than the virus? Test the theory!
Conversation starter
Technical adjustment to artistic output: You may be dancing on atypical dance surfaces through isolation; tile floors, carpet, uneven levels, sticky or slick surfaces, perhaps you have started dancing outdoors on grass, cement or dirt and changed footwear. Your core and hip strength will be more important than ever, affecting knee and ankle integrity. Think about how the modification challenge has not only affected your need to build core and joint strength, but also affected your creative output. Explore, Are you more in tune with alignment? Has this time been an opportunity to work on fundamentals, or has it had additional unexpected creative benefits? Share your insights with another artist? How can your response to the challenges serve the artist in you and artists you interact with?
