Emotions in dance - Media Headlines in present times stir up much emotion. Many say dance as a practice is cathartic to processing emotion. Performance also can provoke emotional reactions for audience and performer.
Experiment with both of these angles. Choreograph a neutral, emotionless phrase of movement. Film it in this raw state. Insert an intentional emotion and feel how it changes your movement and your own mental state. Take notes; i.e. does the movement slow down, become irregular, feel more grounded?....does it lift your spirits, drain you?....
Film it and/or perform it for someone, with the same emotion. Does what you feel translate to the screen/audience? What could you change to translate your personal intent more effectively?
What looks good this week

On the list, And Then We Danced, about dancers in the National Georgian Ensemble and forbidden desire, with English Subtitles.

Fun and social
Tiny Dance Party - Find a friend with a back yard. Determine a safe number of friends for the space then, bring a chair and personal refreshments. Divide the yard into distanced spaces, plenty more than 6ft so you can move, and start your play list. Combine free dancing and games; connect by making a game where one person guides another person's movements by distant mirroring, and pass it on; dance the shapes and patterns you find in view. Enjoy togetherness.
Congratulations ADC, for two years and strong!
