June 15 Thoughts

Creative

Much of the dance videos coming out of the pandemic are collages in their own right, although restricted to rectangles of single dancers sequentially or combined. Explore collage in dance video by expanding your medium with visual arts/media clips. Think out of the box. Image A, movement A. Make a series of these pairings, then rearrange the pieces, separating pairs, creating a new arrangement and see how the meaning may change. Experiment and note how your thoughts expand. Take notes. Try collage with only visual arts media. Then make a movement based off your art piece.

What looks good this week

516arts.org online exhibit "Cut Up or Shut Up", a compendium of collage animation from the 1920s to 2000s.

Escape

Books - "The Murmuring of Bees" by Sofie Segovia, a Mexican story set in the early 20th century, a mix of history and magical realism that begins with a baby covered in a blanket of bees found under a bridge.

"The Innocents" by Michael Crummey, about two siblings surviving alone off the coast of Newfoundland. Deeply engrossing for mature readers, challenging the origins of morality.

Both very different, excellent reads.

We are still thinking of you,
