Thoughts and Ideas 6/10
CONVERSATION Starter
Perspective. A tool in art, a tool in life. Early art lessons demonstrate items at a distance are smaller than items up close. How many ways can you describe 'perspective' physically, figuratively, and metaphorically? Think of perspective from an audience point of view, physically, and mentally. How often have you been unable to see a dancer because they were too close to the front row or too far off at an angle? When is distance an advantage, when proximity? Discuss other ways using perspective can enhance your art.
Exploratory
Create a dance phrase that includes three different planes of movement. Perform, or imagine performing, for an audience as close as a few feet from their seat, and as far as the last seat in an auditorium. What is the difference in what the audience person sees? And feels? Pick another aspect of perspective between performers. Experiment. Discuss.
