CONVERSATION Starter

Terminology. Language. Word order. Where does it matter? ADC chose the term Dance Professional in its mission statement over Professional Dancer. Why? In this case it mattered. We wanted a broader scope of who we serve. In what instances is word choice semantics and in what instances does it change everything? Discuss, explore.

Creative Experiment

Make three dance phrases. Try teaching each in different ways: Technical language in the language of the particular dance form, the language of pure imagery, a foreign language (foreign to the form), in silence,  or another method of your devising. Discuss how you felt, how the dancers felt and received instruction. Compare results. Did you notice you had a preference or difficulty with a particular choice? Why?
