Thoughts and Ideas 2/27

CONVERSATION Starter

Your Audience. Have you ever been to a performance and been unable to see the action on stage or felt ignored by performers projecting to only the front row? Some theaters have ridiculous site-lines and seating perpendicular to the stage, some stages are floor level, even with the front row, or even level with same the back row. Some have multi tiered balconies. How can you be inclusive to your audience (when the work looks outward), how can you help your audience in a difficult seating situation see your work? Can you always? Discuss.

Creative Experiment

  • Perspective. Draw a birds eye view of a stage and auditorium like Popejoy. Draw site-lines, make observations. Line up three or four chairs one behind the other. Sit on the floor before the front chair. Imagine being in the seat four rows back. Can they see you? Can you see them? What if you were standing? How much of your moving body is visible? Adjust your body position and distance from the front chair. Make observations related to site-lines. Discuss.
