Thoughts and Ideas 2/6
CONVERSATION Starter
Looking. Listening. What is the difference in looking and seeing, hearing and listening? Speaking and relating? When are you having a conversation versus hearing or delivering a monologue? Recall occasions when you noticed the difference. Are there cues? Reflect on reasons and feelings around the differences. How would this relate to teaching? Choreography? Performance? Discuss.
Creative Experiment
1a. Glance at a random object. Immediately write a description without looking back at the object.
1b. Pick up a random object, study it for ten full minutes. Write a description. Write the tangential thoughts that occur. Compare.
2. Film or observe an exercise with a partner(s) or group. Divide into two, those looking for eye contact and those internally absorbed or avoiding eye contact. Walk the room or dance with these roles. Change roles. Repeat with both partners/all moving while seeing each other. Discuss how each role felt. Discuss how it felt to observe the disconnect versus the connection.
