Thoughts and Ideas 11/14

Props and unexpected prompts. Have you used props or unexpected prompts as a tool in your movement exploration? Sometimes a line in a book, a pattern on a wall, an object in your hand is all it takes. Something captures your attention and sets off a chain reaction that makes its way into the studio. Think of times this has happened for you and review the results and feelings that ensued. Discuss with a peer.
Creative Experiment
Find a cheap paintbrush or two. Place it/them in your palm(s) with the handle pointing down your wrist and the bristles just in line or barely past the finger tips. Now explore movement and think of brush strokes, explore all kinds of strokes, as if you are placing paint on a three dimensional page. Imagine the paint. How does your movement affect the beginning and end of the line? Make subtle and dramatic changes. See where your imagination and the prop take you. Involve your entire body. Discuss discoveries with a friend.
