Zeno's Paradox of Motion. I just read of this in "Lincoln's Highway" by Amor Towles, a novel that both annoyed and entertained me. The Paradox goes, that in order to get to a destination one must first go halfway. And for each distance further must again go half that distance first, which leads to an infinite number of fractions of never arriving. It is absurdist of course, as anyone who has arrived at a destination knows, however haven't we all felt at some point that a goal keeps escaping, forever just beyond our grasp? One can reverse the motion and keep dividing the first half of the distance and never begin. This may also sound familiar. Discuss situations in which you have felt either way. How did you make your way through these situations? Did you? Consider the role of inaction and action, of staying in your head.

Exploratory

Stand in a large space. Identify a destination at the furthest point. Explore all the ways you can never arrive using inaction, movement, over analysis, gesture, metaphor, fractioning.... And of course, after exhausting yourself with the first exercise, find a way to arrive in as many ways as you desire; planned, improvised, direct, problem solving along the way, adding obstacles to overcome.... reflect. Notice the tools that helped you arrive.
