Musing
"Concentric circles of belonging", A giant traveling puppet of a refugee child. These two items from separate art genres in the news merged in my mind recently. How to choreograph a sense of belonging, question division through dance? How could you begin? Discuss, brainstorm.
Creative Experiment
Make a written list of your varied interests, varied personality traits, skills, cultures, the parts that come together to make you. Cut the list into parts and lay them about your dance space. If working with other dancers make a list together. Starting in the center, create dance movement circling or making division between individual pieces of paper enclosing a piece relating to you. Increase the number of parts within your sphere of dance. If you have access to other dancers, feel how the circles intersect as you move. Where can you dance together, take the opportunity. Take the exercise where it leads you. Discuss ways to create further exercises and choreography.
