Thoughts and Ideas
Musing
"Life is a mosaic, you pick the parts." I can't locate the source of that thought nugget, but I imagine it comes from a successful mosaic tile artist. Picking the parts and design require faith and courage. Sounds simple enough when thinking concretely, but let's not be concrete. Don't we also choose which thoughts to lay importance on, which emotions, which new information is pertinent to our choices in life? Having the faith in our instincts to pivot away from a first vision, the courage to move in a new direction when a new "tile", a new nugget of information reveals a new truth, and maybe to know that this moment may be one "tile" that determines a future pivotal moment, this can be an act of faith in itself..... and don't discount the importance of discarded "tiles".
Creative Experiment
Take a sheet of paper cut it into "tiles". Write on each one: thoughts about a dance or movement sequence you want to work with, bits of choreography, sensations from all senses, you decide, just fill all the pieces. Leave it for a day, see what your mind returns to over the interim. When you return, pick out the tiles you want to work with, arrange them on a tray. Save the discards in a cup nearby, then work with your movement plan. Each day look over the design and if the impulse is there, look again at the discards. Make new tiles when new strands of information move you to do so. At the end a a time you set for yourself, a week, ten days, a month, reflect on the process.
