(1) Title: Framework 4

Dancers: Miles, Maple Street’s front doorframe.
Sound: Recorded personal notes and letters.

Description:

An exploration of connection, contact, distance, space, and ways of being together when, in the physical world proximity is limited or impossible and in the virtual world proximity distorts distance but leaves behind physicality

Background:

Framework began in 2016 as a project to get to know my home. A way to deeply investigate my new living space. An attempt to learn how I make relationship to the physical reality of my house through letter writing, contact improvisation, and film. The first re-staging took place in early 2017 was part of The Home Show, an immersive performance project in Hadley, MA, where the score morphed to incorporate connections between people, friends, acquaintances, known, and unknown persons through thank-you notes, a new room and short-rehearsed dance relationship with a new doorframe in an unfamiliar house. The second and third re-stagings took place in 2018 at a Maple Street Choreographer’s showcase, and 2019 at an Albuquerque Curated Experiments Salon (ACES) event, both stepping out of the doorframe and onto the stage to explore the relationship between audience and performer, viewer and viewed, and how those relationships mirror and differ from the relationship between sound and movement, speech and sound, contact and distance bones, ligaments, and muscles. This fourth re-staging pulls together distance, virtual connection, contact, liminal space, spatial limitation, and personal letters in an attempt to feel in to the ways that connection and closeness change when physical proximity becomes uncertain or impossible,
