Movement at the Museum: The Woods Before Sunrise, breana

The Woods Before Sunrise showcases the work of nine contemporary artists whose interpretations of the local landscape explore universal themes of sustainability, cultural history, and a personal connection to nature. Offering a joyful, and at times challenging, investigation into the meanings of land, place, and belonging, the works on display express and uplift the unique and multifaceted Black experience in New Mexico.

Co-curated by artist Nikesha Breeze and Assistant Curator of Art William Gassaway, PhD, featured artists include Breeze, Ron Adams, Noé Barnett, Maurice Burns, Karsten Creightney, Jakia Fuller, Jackie Mitchell Edwards, Rein Whitt-Pritchette, and Paula Wilson.
