Movement at the Museum, Butoh with Dustin Maxell

Sunday, February 22nd, 2026

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

ABQ Museum
2000 Mountain Rd NW

Our first Movement at the Museum collaboration is based on the exhibit “Beauty in the Breakdown“.

Led by Dustin Maxwell employing Butoh, the postmodern, meditative Japanese dance form is full of paradox. Perhaps it is paradox. By dis-integrating, we re-integrate. By resonating with self, we resonate with others. By allowing things to pass, we ground ourselves in presence.

This dance workshop, presented alongside the Albuquerque Museum’s exhibit “Beauty in the Breakdown” will explore the ever changing nature of all things through somatic experiencing, and butoh dance techniques. We will “be danced” by the photographs presented in the exhibit and perhaps gain an embodied understanding of the vitality of change – the beauty in the breakdown. This workshop is open to adults at all levels and abilities.

Movement at the Museum is free for participants and paid for the Choreographer.
